Chiropractic EHR Integration Software

Move the subluxation level, regions treated, care status and initial treatment date from the chiropractic note to the claim, and send benefits and balances back.

Chiropractic EHR Integration Software connects a chiropractic clinic's EHR to billing. Demographics, appointments and charges flow in from the clinical record, carrying the subluxation level, the regions treated, the care status and the initial treatment date. Eligibility results, visit limits and balances flow back, so doctors and the front desk see the same facts.

EHR Integration in a Chiropractic Practice

Most chiropractic offices chart in one system and bill in another. When the two don't talk, staff retype charges and the details Medicare checks get lost on the way. Unlimited Systems connects to the practice's EHR through HL7, FHIR or an API, whichever the EHR supports. Patient and appointment data arrive as they are entered. When the doctor signs a visit, the charge arrives with the manipulation code, the regions treated, the primary subluxation diagnosis and its level, and whether care was active or maintenance. The initial treatment date set at the first visit travels with every later claim. Going the other way, eligibility replies, plan visit limits, ABN status and patient balances return to the clinical side. Each connection is tested in a sandbox before go-live, and interface traffic is monitored in real time, so a stalled feed is caught before visits go unbilled.

Why Is EHR Integration Different in Chiropractic?

The chiropractic note decides the claim more than in many fields. The number of regions treated sets the manipulation code. The level of subluxation must be the primary diagnosis. The doctor's view of whether care is corrective or maintenance decides AT or GA. If these facts are retyped by a biller, every copy is a chance for error. EHR integration lets them move once, from the note to the charge.

Many chiropractors use EHRs built for chiropractic, rather than the large systems hospitals run. These products vary in how they share data. Some send HL7 messages, some offer FHIR or other APIs, and some export files. Unlimited Systems works through the channel each system supports. The connection for a given chiropractic EHR is confirmed and tested during setup, not assumed, and the wider standards questions belong to chiropractic interoperability.

Integration also has to run both ways. A doctor planning more visits should see that the patient is close to a plan limit. A front desk checking a patient out should see whether an ABN is on file for today's maintenance visit. Without a return flow, the clinical team works blind on coverage, and the billing team learns about problems only after the claim is denied.

What Chiropractic EHR Integration Software Handles

Subluxation level as primary diagnosis
Medicare requires the primary diagnosis to be subluxation, with its precise spinal level. The diagnosis order from the signed note is kept on the charge, so the claim lists the level first. (CMS Medicare Benefit Policy Manual, Chapter 15, Section 240.1.2 (Diagnosis and level of subluxation))
Initial treatment date
Medicare checks for the date of initial treatment or exacerbation on each chiropractic claim. The date set in the EHR at the first visit is carried onto every later charge. (CMS Medicare Claims Processing Manual, Chapter 12, Section 220 (Chiropractic Services))
Regions treated on the charge
CMS lists failure to document all treated spinal regions as a common denial reason. The regions in the note travel with the manipulation code, so billers can see that they match. (CMS MLN1232664: Medicare Documentation Checklist and Guidelines for Chiropractic Doctors (April 2025))
Care status and modifiers
AT applies to active or corrective care, GA to maintenance under a signed ABN, and GY to excluded services. The doctor's care status in the note sets which one the charge carries. (Noridian JE Part B: Chiropractic Claim Submission Requirements (AT, GA, GZ, GY))
Functional outcome scores
MIPS Measure 182 looks for a standardized functional tool and a care plan at eligible visits. Scores charted in the EHR flow to billing for quality tracking. (CMS QPP: 2026 MIPS CQM Quality ID 182, Functional Outcome Assessment)
HL7 v2 message types
Demographics move as ADT messages, appointments as SIU and charges as DFT, where the EHR supports HL7 version 2. Each message is checked for format before it is accepted. (HL7 Version 2 Product Suite)

How Does Chiropractic EHR Integration Software Work?

  1. 1. Confirm the channel

During setup, the team confirms whether the EHR sends HL7, FHIR or API data. Field maps for chiropractic details, such as regions and care status, are agreed.

  2. 2. Test in the sandbox

Sample patients, visits and charges run through a test environment. Mapping problems are fixed before live data moves.

  3. 3. Flow patients and visits in

Registration and appointment updates arrive as they are entered. Duplicate patients are flagged before a second record is created.

  4. 4. Send signed charges to billing

Signed visits arrive as charges with codes, diagnoses, regions and care status. They go straight to charge validation for the Medicare and payer edits.

  5. 5. Return coverage and balances

Eligibility replies, visit limits, ABN status and balances flow back to the EHR side. The doctor and front desk see coverage facts at the point of care.

  6. 6. Watch the interface

Interface traffic is monitored in real time. A feed that stops is flagged before visits go unbilled.

Who Uses It in a Chiropractic Practice

  • Chiropractor: Charges that reflect the note as signed, plus a view of the patient's visit limit and ABN status while planning care.
  • Biller: Charges that arrive with regions, level, care status and the initial treatment date, ready for the claim without retyping.
  • Office manager: One patient record across clinical and billing, with an interface that is watched rather than assumed to work.

Chiropractic EHR Integration Software FAQs

EHR integration moves patients, appointments and signed charges from the EHR to billing. Each charge carries the manipulation code, the regions treated, the subluxation level as primary diagnosis, care status and the initial treatment date. In return, eligibility results, visit limits, ABN status and balances go back to the clinical side, so both teams work from the same facts.
